Many of you know that 3 times a year I leave the practice and the life I love here in Austin and disappear for a few days. When I return, I am refreshed, excited, and much smarter. Ha! I thought I would share with you what I am up to. I am a member of a wonderful group of women chiropractors called the Royal Chiropractic Knights of the Round Table. There are 21 of us, and we meet 3 times a year at different locations around the country. We join together for the purpose of advancing the art, science, and philosophy of chiropractic. This amazing group of women has been meeting 3 times a year for 33 years, and I have been with this group for 19 years.
Membership in the Knights is by invitation only and new candidates are accepted only after 3 meetings to see that there is a natural right fit with the group. Our group was started by Dr. Delores Astrella Silverstein after she was denied membership in the men’s group. Delores got busy, called some friends, and started the women’s group. She had a successful practice and raised 5 children in Colorado Springs, and still found time to mentor many young women chiropractors and start the all-women Royal Knights. She is a force of nature and the Knights are forever in her debt.
These amazing women are brilliant leaders in chiropractic and have incredible practices. They are a wealth of knowledge in many areas, and yet remain humble and generous to a fault. There is no ego involved. We gather together for an intense few days and present papers on a variety of topics involving health, healing, wellness, and practice. We share adjusting techniques, research and problem-solve challenging cases. This group is like nothing I have experienced anywhere in life or in practice. We are passionate about learning and sharing knowledge with each other. We travel in different circles during the rest of the year, so when we come together, we have a lot to share. I always come back from the Knights inspired, motivated and invigorated. And of course, we have fun and lots of laughs. We are all great friends and cherish our time together.
Last but not least, we are connected to each throughout the year for advice, support, mentoring, consultations, or just a pep talk. We connect by phone, text, email, and video. I don’t think a week goes by when I don’t hear from one or more of the Knights. I have instant access to a tremendous amount of wisdom and brainpower. I wish everyone had a tribe of mentors, friends, and colleagues as I have. I am honored and blessed to be a part of this sacred group of extraordinary women.
