Where Is Your Weakest Link?

Where Is Your Weakest Link?

Have you noticed that when you are under stress, you tend to have recurrent problems in the same area? This is your Weakest Link. We are all unique, so the weakest link is different for all of us. Your weakest link can be the low back, the neck, mid-back, a loss of appetite, or Headaches.

So why is this? When we are under stress, we tend to first break down in the area where we are weakest, due to long-standing damage. This is often due to an old injury, sometimes many years in the past. When there is an injury, we always heal by the process of scarring. This is called “the fibrosis (scar) of repair”. This is the natural way of healing and repair for all of us. The problem is that this scar tissue, especially in and around joints of the spine, is weaker, less flexible, and more pain-sensitive. These weaker areas tend to flare up when we are under stress.

SYMPATHETIC DOMINANCE

It’s a lot like having an overload on the electrical system at your house. You plug in one appliance too many to an overloaded system, and you blow a fuse. This is like the weakest link in your spine. One stresses too many and you blow a fuse. The sympathetic dominant state causes the large muscles of the body to tighten up, but the small, spinal muscles are inhibited, allowing the vertebra of the spine to subluxate or misalign. Mental, physical, or emotional stress causes us to go into a state called “fight or flight”, a state where adrenalin and cortisol skyrocket. This is called Sympathetic Dominance. In the best-case scenario, we don’t stay in “fight or flight” for long. The crisis passes, and we go back to a calm state called “rest and digest”. But stress levels are at all-time highs for many people right now, so we are more stressed and more subluxated than ever.

So, what can you do to heal, strengthen, and support your weakest link? The first step is to get a thorough spinal exam and specific standing, spinal X-rays to find out if you have a spinal subluxation. If you are subluxated, Chiropractic is the only profession trained to detect and correct this condition; you cannot exercise, massage, stretch, or take drugs.
